2013 IRS 990 Extracts Search

For the last two years, the IRS has released a set of summary data from all annual tax returns -- form 990s -- filed by tax-exempt organizations during the previous year. These "extracts" provide more extensive data than in previous years. Containing 245 fields (up from 62 in the 2012 extracts) the extracts allow users to perform detailed searches of returns filed in 2013 (primarily covering 2012). Thus, users looking only for the groups that reported spending to influence elections, for instance, or gave out grants to other organizations can do so. This search function created by the Center for Responsive Politics allows users to find data on specific groups, but it also has a set of pre-determined browsing capabilities for organizations with certain financial characteristics that might be of interest.
