PART 1. Can Romney Hijack the Republican Convention?

In the aftermath of the Illinois Republican presidential primary one thing has become clear – the delegate counts being bandied about by the Romney campaign and its sympathizers in the Republican establishment are at best wishful thinking and are more likely a ploy to hijack the Republican National Convention before it even opens.


Naturally, the campaigns and their supporters are going to spin the delegate count to their best advantage. However, as Virginia’s long-serving Republican National Committeeman, and uncommitted delegate Morton Blackwell pointed out in a post on Red State, under the clear letter and meaning of the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) rules, the Romney claimed delegate total of 484 to 563 (depending on source) has been significantly overstated, while the Santorum delegate total of 180 to 263 (depending on source) appears to be greatly understated... more
