Denunciation of Stevenson campaign slogan, 1952 |
Speaker |
McCarthy, Joseph, 1908-1957 |
Description |
Senator McCarthy denounces the slogan -- "You ain't ever had it so good" -- used by the Adlai Stevenson presidential campaign. He argues that the Democrats are celebrating a wartime prosperity that is being purchased at a high cost in American lives in Korea. Early in the excerpt, McCarthy refers to Adlai Stevenson as "Alger" Stevenson, a slip of the tongue he purposely made in other campaign speeches. McCarthy is addressing a group of Young Republicans at the Arthur Hill High School auditorium in Saginaw, Michigan. |
