Government Schools—the god that failed on purpose

By Al Benson Jr.
Posted on

In the past I have commented on how most people view public schools, how many have commented on their gross failure to educate and I have stated that the public schools have really not failed—at what they were instituted to do—the dumbing down of our kids. At this they have been a smashing success.

What they have failed to do, and this is on purpose, is to educate the children committed to their charge. They continue to turn out graduates who don’t even know what century the War of Northern Aggression was fought in or who Hitler was, or who was president before our current Commissar took the office.

I am not saying that every public school teacher is a “bad” person or even that everyone working for a public school system is a bad person—I have a niece that is a public school teacher and she is well acquainted with many of the tragic problems in that system. There are lots of good folks that, in one way or another, work in the public school system and it’s not them that are evil—it’s the system itself and the agenda of the Educational Establishment in this country.

The main problem with the public, or government, school system is that its founders and true adherents have a messiah complex. The wish to replace the Triune God with their educational system—not to educate children, but to control and manipulate them—to make them into compliant little robots to be used by the New World Order as they deem fit. The mindset of those running the current governmental education establishment goes all the way back to the Tower of Babel—they are going to build a tower that reaches to Heaven and make a name for themselves and create a people that will do their will, not God’s.

Unfortunately “their will” is something most Christians and patriotic people wish to remain blissfully unaware of. “Don’t tell us that “right-wing stuff” we don’t want to be aware of all that. If we are we might have to assume some responsibility personally for our kids’ education, and that’s the absolute last thing we want.”

Personal responsibility—ugh!!! Forget that—let the schools do it—and the public schools are only too happy to do it—at the expense of your kids’ souls!

Just recently, I came across an article on http://www.thearrowsoftruth.com titled The Rockefeller School System: Compulsory Indoctrination Camps for Social Control that was published back in November of 2012. The article stated: “The first federalized U.S. educaton boar was the 1870 founded NEA (National Education Administration) which quickly announced that countrywide school science courses must be restructured to teach ‘evolution’ as fact, not theory. Having gained a fair amount of pull in the NEA, in 1903, John D. Rockefeller created the GEB (General Education Board) in an effort toward ‘this goal of social control.’ Later, in 1923 he would also created the International Education Board providing over $20 million to promote education abroad. The Rockefeller, Carnegie and Ford groups have often funded (and thus steered) American education more so even than the government.” One thing you need to realize here from this statement is that these people are the “real government” that calls the shots and the people you thought you elected to office are often little more than political puppets being directed by the Rockefellers, Carnegies, Fords, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission and the Bilderbergers. That’s where the real power in this country lies—not in those you voted for—they are just the “house slaves” carrying out Massa’s orders, for which they get “house privileges” and assorted perks.

The article continues: “Reading through the papers of the Rockefeller Foundation’s General Education Board an endowment rivaled in school policy influence in the first half of the twentieth century only by Andrew Carnegie’s various philanthropies, seven curious elements force themselves on the curious reader: 1. There appears a clear intention to mold people through schooling. 2. There is a clear intention to eliminate tradition and scholarship. 3. The net effect of various projects is to create a strong class system verging on caste. 4. There is a clear intention to reduce mass critical intelligence while supporting infinite specialization. 5. There is clear intention to weaken parental influence. 6 There is clear intention to overthrow accepted custom. 7. There is a striking congruency between the cumulative purposes of GEB and the utopian precepts of the oddball religious sect, once known as Perfectionism, a secular religion aimed at making the perfection of human nature, not salvation or happiness, the purpose of existence.

The agenda of philanthropy, which had so much to do with the schools we got, turns out to contain an intensely political component.” And this is a quote from the John Taylor Gatto book The Underground History of American Education.

And the article gives a short list of organizations funded by the Rockefellers. Some of them are: Atlantic Union, Council on Foreign Relations, Federation of World Governments, The Trilateral Commission World Affairs Council, United World Federalists. Notice any trends in this list? All of these groups in one way or another promote World government.

In his informative book The Rockefeller File which I believe can be found on the Internet, author Gary Allen noted comments by a former Baptist pastor, Frederick Taylor Gates, who had pastured a church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Gates left that pastorate, was appointed secretary of the American Baptist Education Society, and, in that post, he championed a Baptist university in Chicago, which became the University of Chicago—one of the most leftist universities in the country. In 1889, Gates met John D. Rockefeller and became one of his advisors. Gary Allen has observed that: “Daddy Oilbucks (Rockefeller) put his assistant, Fred Gates, in charge of his General Education Board. Gates tipped the Rockefeller philosophy on education in the Board’s Occasional Paper No. 1: In our dreams we have limitless resources and the people yield themselves with perfect docility to our molding hands.

The present educational conventions fade from our minds, and unhampered by tradition, we work our own good will upon a grateful and responsive rural folk.” Gives you the warm fuzzies doesn’t it?

Some commentators have claimed this quote was taken out of context and really doesn’t mean what it sounds like, but if “Rev.” Gates ended up as an advisor to Rockefeller then you have to know that this One World mindset about educational control is where he was coming from. Had it not been, then Rockefeller would have had no use for him. And you have to wonder, looking at the University of Chicago now, where the Baptists lost control. I recall reading a little book, years ago entitled How Red is the University of Chicago?

Allen also noted that “The Rockefeller and Carnegie foundations, which often had interlocking directorates and many times acted in unison, began in the early Thirties to back John Dewey and his Marxist educationists with enormous amounts of money.” This is the same John Dewey that had so much to do with shaping public education in this country, the man that was a signer of Humanist Manifesto 1. Check that one out on the Internet too, while you still can.

The thing to remember here is that those who ran these foundations and had a One World Government mindset are the very ones that financially helped to design the curriculum that most of us were taught in government schools, and they are still doing it. Your kids today are getting fed the same One World Swill we were fed in government schools. It was, and still is, anti-Christian, as it was intended to be from the beginning. You can have all the Christian teachers you want in public schools, but if they are forced to teach this stuff, whether knowingly or not, where is their Christian testimony? The sincere teachers and the kids have been sold down the river and are forced to partake of the One World outlook that goes all the way back to the Tower of Babel. I realize the folks, even Christians, that prefer to have their kids “educated” in this setting won’t be influenced by what I have written here, but at least they will not be able to say no one ever told them. Lots of folks over the past hundred or so years have told them and the fact that they are not listening in the main is one reason this country will be judged.

And, coincidentally, in this vein, Sam Blumenfeld and Alex Newman have just written a book called Crimes of the Educators: How Utopians Are Using Government Schools To Destroy America’s Children. This was published by WND Books in April of this year.

The Costs of Compulsory Education

by

Education elites and their political cronies have implemented countless initiatives aimed at reforming education. From the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, every plan put forth has resulted in nothing but inefficient expenditures, new layers of bureaucracy, and continuing declines in student achievement.

Education will only be reformed once parents and entrepreneurs are free to create real alternatives to the broken systems that exist today. Repealing compulsory-education laws and allowing parents to spend their education dollars freely should be the first steps in this direction.

Curiously, compulsory-education laws, which conscript children into state-regulated programs of study, are rarely discussed in the context of education reform; these laws' ostensibly benevolent nature allows demagogues to marginalize detractors and quell any attempt at serious discourse. This results in far-reaching regulations that control how private actors educate, and thus prohibits students from getting the individualized education they need.

The origin of compulsory education was characterized by oppression and forced assimilation. The modern movement was initially led by Martin Luther and the early Protestants, who sought to inculcate the masses with their religious views. Despotic Prussia was the first to enact laws at the national level, and compulsory education quickly became a weapon of choice for states seeking to destroy troublesome cultures and languages. In the United States, Massachusetts began enforcing mandatory attendance in 1852, and by 1918 every state had enacted similar legislation. The primary impetus for policymakers was to assimilate poor immigrant children; labor unions were also ardent supporters, as they sought to decrease the supply of labor in the workforce.

Current laws vary by state in details, but they are quite homogeneous in spirit. All require a minimum amount of instructional time (ranging from 160 to 186 days annually) at approved institutions. The majority of Americans between the ages of 5 and 18 are compelled to meet this requirement, with several states enforcing slightly more lenient laws. Although parents are free to pursue private education for their children, such options are almost always regulated by state governments.

There is likely a minority of children who benefit from compulsory education. While these outliers are by no means insignificant, the benefits accrued to them do not justify the aggregate effects imposed. To objectively evaluate the merits of such laws, we must fully account for all of their costs. Evaluating the effects on private forms of education is a good starting point.

Private schools and homeschools are rarely truly free-market alternatives to government-regulated education. By mandating attendance, states have a virtual stranglehold on the nature of private education. After all, in order to become a state-approved program of study at which "official" attendance is recognized, private actors are forced to satisfy some combination of curricular, reporting, and testing requirements.

In New York, for instance, homeschools must submit a notice of intent, maintain attendance records, file quarterly reports, and submit Individualized Home Instruction Plans for state approval.
Additionally, students must successfully complete an annual assessment, including mandatory yearly standardized testing for grades nine and above. Perhaps most problematic, however, is its mandate that instruction given to a child must be "at least substantially equivalent to minors of like age or attainments at public schools," an edict clearly susceptible to abuse by state officials. This forces parents to comply with the belief systems of distant regulators who are free to define "substantially equivalent" as they see fit.

In the event that a parent's personal values oppose those of the state, the state's interests will ultimately prevail. This conflict prompted Murray Rothbard to note that at the heart of the compulsory-education debate is "the idea that children belong to the State rather than to their parents." If you attempt to challenge this notion, your child may be labeled "truant," and you may be subjected to fines, imprisonment, and the forcible return of their child to his or her zoned public school. Compulsory education thus imposes the state's definition of "education" on all parties falling under its auspices — even those pursuing a "private" course of study.

The state's monopoly on what defines "education" inevitably suppresses alternative views, thereby eliminating the complexity and diversity that should be prevalent in the market. Instead, a homogeneous system is used to serve heterogeneous students — yet another cost of compulsory education. READ MORE

More African Americans are Abandoning State-Run Schools and opting for Homeschool

By: Joshua Cook Mar 9, 2015
According to National Home Education Research Institute, approximately 220,000 African American students are being homeschooled. Black families are one of the fastest growing home school demographic.

A 2012 report published in the Journal of Black Studies found that most black families chose to educate their children at home to avoid school-related racism.

According to The Atlantic, there is a rise in homeschooling for African American families.

“We have all heard that the American education system is not the best and is falling behind in terms of international standards,” Temple University faculty member Ama Mazama said. “But this is compounded for black children, who are treated as though they are not as intelligent and cannot perform as well, and therefore the standards for them should be lower.”

Listen to Ben Swann’s interview with Dr. Ron Paul about the homeschooling revolution and why more and more families are leaving the failed public school system and choosing homeschooling for their children.

Report: Homeschooled students do better in college

February 18, 2015
MANASSAS, Va. – Homeschooled students tend to achieve a high degree of academic success in college, and often outperform their peers, argue several administrators from faithful Catholic colleges recommended in The Newman Guide.

The experience of these administrators with homeschooled students correlates with a 2013 study—conducted for the Journal of Catholic Education—which found significant evidence of higher ACT and SAT scores and overall GPAs for homeschooled students who attend a Catholic university. Marc Snyder, assistant head of school for students at Rhodora J. Donahue Academy in Florida, conducted the study by surveying students attending Ave Maria University.

The study’s sample population was composed of 33.6 percent homeschooled students, 34.8 percent Catholic high school students, and 31.6 percent public high school students. It found “a positive and significant difference between homeschooled students and public schooled students.” Homeschooled students apparently “outperformed traditionally schooled students on two of four measures,” indicating “that homeschooled students are academically valuable to the university,” according to Notre Dame’s Cardus Religious Schools Initiative.

“Homeschooled students are invariably among our better students, and as more enroll, experience continues to confirm this,” said Dr. David Williams, interim vice president for academic affairs and associate professor of theology at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C., in an interview with The Cardinal Newman Society. “The average range of ability tends to be higher among homeschooled students who study at [Belmont] and compares well with the very best of public and privately-schooled students.”

“We’re always pleased with our homeschooled students,” Williams told the Society. “Not only do they tend to be among the best academically, but they also possess a great deal of initiative and eagerness to participate in the college community.”

Dr. Stephen Shivone, interim assistant dean for academic affairs and assistant professor of English at Belmont, said, “Homeschooled students almost always write and read well” and “tend to be more engaged and active in conversation.”

Tom McFadden, vice president of enrollment at Christendom College in Front Royal, Va., affirmed the Cardus study’s findings and shared the College’s own positive experience with homeschooled students.

“Christendom has always been a top choice for homeschooled students because, in general, it seems these students tend to be natural leaders, are self-motivated and driven to perform with little supervision, while at the same time, [they] are expected to work hard and pursue a challenging academic program,” he explained. Christendom’s program is well-suited for homeschooled students as it “requires self-motivated students who want to succeed in their academic pursuits,” McFadden observed.

Dr. Joshua Hochschild, dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md., provided additional statistics to the Newman Society.

“We have found overall that homeschooled students enter the Mount with higher standardized test scores, about 60-70 points higher on SAT scores, and maintain higher GPAs,” he stated. “We also found that they’re more likely to persist in their education.” Homeschooled students are 8 to 10 percent more likely to remain at Mount St. Mary’s to complete their degrees, Hochschild disclosed.

He continued:
Families that homeschool are especially attuned to certain aspects of education. They know the importance of a coherent curriculum and the importance of choosing one. They know about the importance of personal attention as teachers. They understand the culture-building dimension of learning—that it’s not just about information, but about being formed as a person within the culture.
Belmont Abbey College, Christendom College, and Mount St. Mary’s University are recommended in The Newman Guide for their strong Catholic identities.

The Cardinal Newman Society’s 2015 edition of the Guide was launched alongside Recruit Me, an innovative program that lets students sign up so that the recommended colleges can compete for them.

Finding the Foreign Agents

Isn't it unlawful for our congress members to receive donor contributions from foreigners and not be registered as foreign agents under FARA? Nearly every US congressman is on Israel's payroll. See the complete list HERE. Pretty unlikely that an honest game will ever be seen by the American people when the 'umpires' are on the other team!

One suspects that the Barack Obama/Eric Holder Justice department has little stomach for going after any organization linked to Israel...

In monitoring the activities of foreign organizations, the DOJ often gives powerful political lobbies a pass.

by Philip Giraldi

American Conservative

In high school civics classes, Americans are brought up to believe that in their nation a rule of law prevails. Justice is depicted as blind and the rules apply to everyone. All Americans will receive the same fair hearing in court or at the hands of the government. Of course the reality is that experience tells us that those who trust in impartial justice are somewhat delusional as the criminal justice and regulatory systems do not operate in a reliably mechanical fashion. Many factors determine whether a suspect actually goes to trial or whether an organization is regulated or investigated and there are a number of roadblocks along the way that influence the outcome.

One of the federal government regulatory bodies that few have heard about is the board at the United States Department of Justice’s Counterespionage Section that administers the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). The original FARA was passed in 1938 just before the outbreak of war in Europe and was intended to monitor the activities of front organizations being directed by the German and Italian governments. From its inception FARA was politicized and selective. Rome and Berlin were potential enemies while the extremely active British government efforts to draw the United States into what eventually became a European and then a world war were largely ignored.

The original act was loosely worded to include anyone propagandizing for a foreign power but an amended version in 1966 narrowed the definition of whom would be covered to include only actual “agents of a foreign principal” working directly for a foreign government in an attempt to influence U.S. economic or political decision making. Since 1966 there have been no successful criminal prosecutions under FARA and nearly all compliance has been more-or-less voluntary. There have, however, been a number of civil cases and administrative resolutions in which the government asserted the viability of the act. In 2004, for example, Susan Lindauer, a former congressional staffer, was charged with taking payments from an Iraqi government source. Her case was finally dropped in 2009.

There are somewhat less than 2,000 foreign agents registered under the act representing more than 100 countries. Their names and their periodic financial and activities filings are accessible by the public at the FARA Unit office in Washington. Most are associated with law or lobbying firms that represent foreign governments as part of their business. Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert was, for a time, a registered agent for Turkey when he held that account while working for the Dickstein Shapiro law firm, which he joined after leaving congress. Former Congressman Dick Gephardt also headed a company engaged in lobbying for Turkey. Both Gephardt and Hastert were involved in lobbying Congress to oppose pending legislation calling the First World War massacre of Turkish Armenians a “genocide.”

The disadvantage of registering under FARA is that you have to disclose your sources of income and you also have to detail what you are doing on behalf of the foreign government. Organizations that do not consider that they are actually directed by a foreign government or who assess their relationship to be borderline are consequently reluctant to comply.

FARA inevitably is selective in its targeting. Agents of nations hostile to the United States are pursued with some vigor while organizations linked to powerful domestic political lobbies tend to get a pass. This has been historically true of Irish republican groups as well as of the predecessor of the powerful American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which was founded in 1949 as the American Zionist Council. The American Zionist Council was funded directly by the Jewish Agency for Israel. Attorney General Robert Kennedy ordered the group to register in 1962 but the death of his brother led to an intense lobbying campaign to influence his strongly pro-Israel successor Lyndon B. Johnson who obligingly instructed the Justice Department to stand down.
I am sometimes asked if I have any regrets about publishing our book. As of today, my only regret is that it is not being published now. After the humiliations that Obama has endured at the hands of the Israel Lobby and the Hagel circus, we would sell even more copies and we would not face nearly as much ill-informed criticism. — Stephen Walt, co-author of the book.

Since that time repeated efforts to compel AIPAC to register have failed due to White House and Justice Department unwillingness to confront the issue but a new initiative by the Israeli government might well be construed as having crossed the line in violation of FARA. In early January the Prime Minister’s Office of the Israeli government funded a joint project to be run by the government’s National Information Directorate and StandWithUS, which has been described as an “American hasbara organization.” In Hebrew the name, hasbara, means literally “public explanation” but the expression is generally applied to anyone involved in generating pro-Israeli propaganda. It is also sometimes more politely described as a program of “perception management,” a euphemism made popular by the Donald Rumsfeld Pentagon in 2004.

Education is Too Important Not to Leave to the Marketplace

Written by Ron Paul
Sunday January 25, 2015

This week, events around the country will highlight the importance of parental control of education as part of National School Choice Week. This year’s events should attract more attention than prior years because of the growing rebellion against centralized education sparked by the federal Common Core curriculum.

The movement against Common Core has the potential to change American education. However, anti-Common Core activists must not be misled by politicians promoting “reforms” of the federal education bureaucracy, or legislation ending Common Core while leaving all other federal education programs intact. The only way to protect American children from future Common Core-like programs is to permanently padlock the Department of Education.

Federal programs providing taxpayer funds to public schools give politicians and bureaucrats

leverage to impose federal mandates on schools. So as long as federal education programs exist, school children will be used as guinea pigs for federal bureaucrats who think they are capable of creating a curriculum suitable for every child in the country.

Supporters of federal education mandates say they are necessary to hold schools “accountable.” Of course schools should be accountable, but accountable to whom?

Several studies, as well as common sense, show that greater parental control of education improves education quality. In contrast, bureaucratic control of education lowers education quality. Therefore, the key to improving education is to make schools accountable to parents, not bureaucrats.

The key to restoring parental control is giving parents control of the education dollar. If parents control the education dollar, school officials will strive to meet the parents’ demand that their children receive a quality education. If the federal government controls the education dollar, schools will bow to the demands of Congress and the Department of Education.

So if Congress was serious about improving education it would shut down the Department of Education. It would also shut down all other unconstitutional bureaucracies, end our interventionist foreign policy, and reform monetary policy so parents would have the resources to provide their children with an education that fits their children’s unique needs. Federal and state lawmakers must also repeal any laws that limit the education alternatives parents can choose for their children. The greater the options parents have and the greater the amount of control they exercise over education, the stronger the education system.

These reforms would allow more parents access to education options such as private or religious schools, and also homeschooling. It would also expand the already growing market in homeschooling curriculums. I know a great deal about the homeschooling curriculum market, as I have my own homeschooling curriculum. The Ron Paul Curriculum provides students with a rigorous program of study in history, economics, mathematics, and the physical and natural sciences. It also provides intensive writing instruction and an opportunity for students to operate their own Internet businesses. Of course, my curriculum provides students with an introduction to the ideas of liberty, including Austrian economics. However, we do not sacrifice education quality for ideological indoctrination.

It is no coincidence that as the federal role in education has increased the quality of our education system has declined. Any “reforms” to federal education programs will not fix the fundamental flaw in the centralized model of education. The only way to improve education is to shut down the Department of Education and restore control of education to those with the greatest ability and incentive to choose the type of education that best meets the needs of American children — American parents.

Welcome to the Oligarch Recovery – Majority of Students are in Poverty - First Time in 50 Years

Screen Shot 2015-01-17 at 11.59.09 AM
“When they first come in my door in the morning, the first thing I do is an inventory of immediate needs: Did you eat? Are you clean? A big part of my job is making them feel safe,” said Sonya Romero-Smith, a veteran teacher at Lew Wallace Elementary School in Albuquerque. Fourteen of her 18 kindergartners are eligible for free lunches.

She helps them clean up with bathroom wipes and toothbrushes, and she stocks a drawer with clean socks, underwear, pants and shoes.

From the Washington Post article: Majority of U.S. Public School Students are in Poverty
It’s a recovery so lopsided only Timothy Geithner or an oligarch could love it. Since 2008, U.S. economic policy has concentrated on funneling as much money as possible to billionaires, keeping the poor alive and submissive through government programs, and squeezing the middle class to death while at the same time holding out the carrot of hope that things will return to how they were before (they won’t).

The latest evidence of this monumental cultural theft was highlighted yesterday in the Washington Post. Here are a few excerpts:

For the first time in at least 50 years, a majority of U.S. public school students come from low-income families, according to a new analysis of 2013 federal data, a statistic that has profound implications for the nation.
The Southern Education Foundation reports that 51 percent of students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in the 2012-2013 school year were eligible for the federal program that provides free and reduced-price lunches. The lunch program is a rough proxy for poverty, but the explosion in the number of needy children in the nation’s public classrooms is a recent phenomenon that has been gaining attention among educators, public officials and researchers.
A “recent phenomenon.” Call me crazy, but that isn’t what you’d expect five years into a so-called economic recovery.
“We’ve all known this was the trend, that we would get to a majority, but it’s here sooner rather than later,” said Michael A. Rebell of the Campaign for Educational Equity at Teachers College at Columbia University, noting that the poverty rate has been increasing even as the economy has improved. “A lot of people at the top are doing much better, but the people at the bottom are not doing better at all. Those are the people who have the most children and send their children to public school.”
Again, this isn’t a economic recovery, it is theft. Until we can admit to ourselves what the idiots and thieves in power have done, nothing will change.

Teacher Unions Shape Cultures & Character for Children in Govt Schools

Homeschooling parents and taxpayers are up against it. Under the existing system of educating our children being decided under collective bargaining labor union contracts, without greater civic participation you'll lose (worsening education with ever escalating costs) every time.

We learned this painful lesson in civics on-the-job with children in government schools at the time. First and foremost  we were shocked to discover that our local school board (Shenendehowa NY) negotiated the teacher salaries and contracts with the union itself! Look at those salaries - they are way out of line with the respective lower standard of living wages.

Now, you may say, what's wrong with that, somebody's gotta do it!

Well, I'll tell you what's wrong with 'that'. With little parental/taxpayer interest the voting public is dwarfed by the thundering herd of union voters - that's right voting for the candidates who were most likely to give them what they demanded! Naturally, in keeping with "solidarity" they honored the union leadership's commands who to vote for. How's that any different for choosing your correction officers in state prison?

It is this growing awareness by the public that is reviving the hatemongering directed at the home-schoolers. Anyone that can still think for himself can readily see it's not about 'educating our precious children'. It's about expanding control and power over Americans and their families.

The subversion of America is seeping into your home from the schools. Think for a moment of the many conflicts with our religions, prayer, culture, guns, childbirth, healthcare, military, race, ethnicity, etc. that these disruptors have caused us. You can be an activist on the offensive on many fronts just by using your human energies to dethrone the academic oligarchy and save our country. Informing neighbors, friends, voters, and others will be your goal.

All state teacher labor contracts are on Google that I could see. It takes just two rebels to rumble. Won't you be one to ask someone else?

The below article is a snippet  (pg. 391)

Union Strength and Collective Bargaining Agreement Restrictiveness

Because the CBA lays out the parameters of many aspects of local education policy, the statutory authority to negotiate with the district over the content of the CBA is an important source of influence for the local union. Unions have incentives to push for the regulation of as many aspects of district operations as possible to advance the interests of their members. The more precisely and comprehensively teachers’ rights are outlined in the contracts, the less able district administrators are to, for example, impose new duties on union members or make changes to the school operations that negatively affect working conditions.

The CBA, however, is the result of a bargaining process, which implies that it is the outcome of a negotiation between two parties whose interests are not aligned. The degree to which one party can obtain its objectives in a negotiation is determined by its power relative to the opposing party. In traditional conceptions of management–union bargaining in the private sector, union power is derived from its work denial powers, or the power to strike. Indeed, 14 states allow teacher strikes, including California (Loeb & Miller, 2007). We focus on another source of local union power that is pervasive in education but about which the empirical research base is small: political influence.

A primary source of unions’ political power comes from their ability to influence local board elections (Moe, 2006a). Ninety-six percent of board members are elected through popular vote by residents of their school districts (Hess, 2002). These elections are typically low turnout affairs, which makes their outcomes more susceptible to influence from mobilized interests (Moe, 2005). There are at least two ways in which organized interests might work to influence elections: campaign activity that promotes favored candidates and getting their members to the polls to vote for those candidates. Studies suggest that unions do both—and to no small degree. Seventy-seven percent of respondents to a national survey of board members conducted by Hess and Leal (2005) identified unions as active in campaigning in board elections—a larger share than for any other interest group. Similarly,  Moe’s (2006b) analysis of voting data from two Southern California counties shows that teachers are between two and seven times more likely than non-teachers to vote in board elections.

Moreover, his analysis suggests that these voting rates are driven by “occupational interest” in the outcome rather than just greater civic-mindedness... Read more

Kindergarten’s Socialist Origins

Posted on November 25, 2011

by Al Benson Jr.

Most schools today, both public and private have kindergartens. They have become an accepted part of educational life in this country and others as well.

This was not always so. When I first attended public school, way back in the mid-1940s, there was no kindergarten where I went. Although some schools undoubtedly had them, all schools did not.

They had not become totally entrenched, although their promoters had been working on that project with much zeal. Their efforts seem to have paid off. Kindergarten is now as much a part of school life as the seventh grade.

I have, in the past, written articles and even a couple booklets, dealing with the origins of public, or government, schools in this country. These “institutions of learning” have a history that is never quite openly discussed in all of its ramifications. We often see the names of founders and promoters of public education mentioned in articles or essays, but we are seldom told all that much about these people and what they really believed. Most educators don’t want us to go there.

We are told that Horace Mann, the “father of the common schools” was among the most zealous of their earliest promoters and we are told about how hard Mann labored to make sure there was compulsory attendance for public schools because he was so concerned about the lack of education. We are told of Robert Owen, a “philosopher and pedagogue” who promoted public education. This is usually all most sources tell us about these men. They never really tell us why they did what they did. We are not supposed to ask.

Thus, most folks never find out that Horace Mann was a Unitarian who denied the deity or lordship of Jesus Christ, a man who hated the influence that Calvinist church schools had in New England so much that he sought to come up with another system of education that would negate what the church schools taught.

Most are never informed, regarding Robert Owen, that the “philosopher and pedagogue” was a socialist and atheist who did not believe that man’s original sin caused man’s problems, but rather, man’s problems were the fault of his environment. Thus, if you could just provide the right educational environment, via a public school, that would take care of everything. So Unitarians and socialists worked hand-in-glove to promote public education and to denigrate Christian education and schools. And, unfortunately, the Christians bought it.

Now, regarding kindergartens, http://en.wikipedia.org informs us that Elizabeth Peabody, in 1860, founded the first English-language kindergarten in America, after she visited Watertown, Wisconsin. What this source neglects to mention is that Elizabeth Peabody was Unitarian Horace Mann’s sister-in-law. Why did Ms. Peabody visit Watertown, Wisconsin before starting her kindergarten you may wonder? She went there because the first kindergarten in the country was founded there by Margarethe Meyer-Schurz in 1856. The kindergarten classes in Watertown were conducted in German, but Ms. Schurz’s sister had also founded the first kindergarten in London, England. If the name Schurz sounds familiar to some of my readers, it should. You see, Margarethe Schurz was the wife of Carl Schurz, one of those socialist revolutionaries that came to this country after the socialist revolts in Europe in 1848 failed.

You can read about her husband, Carl, in more depth in the book Lincoln’s Marxists (Pelican Publishing) that Donnie Kennedy and I co-authored. Mr. Schurz was one of the most prominent of the “forty-eighters” who came to this country after their attempts to install socialism in Europe failed. They came here to accomplish what they had failed to do in Europe. Before his illustrious career was over, Carl Schurz ended up becoming the Secretary of the Interior in the Hayes administration. As you can see, socialism pays in Amerika!

An Article by Ann T. Allen on http://www.ohio.edu/ noted that: “The kindergarten, though at first attracting little attention, gained popularity among liberal reformers as part of the surge of interest in new educational methods prompted by the 1848 revolution…Meanwhile 31 kindergartens were founded, many by women’s organizations, in German cities between 1848 and 1852. The women who staffed these institutions expressed the utopian spirit of the era by their commitment to overcoming class differences…The kindergarten movement also influenced the most radical experiment in women’s education of the revolutionary period…”

Much of the impetus for the kindergarten movement came from Friedrich Froebel (1782-1852). R. J. Rushdoony, in his book The Messianic Character of American Education has said of Froebel that: “The fountain-head of all this, Friedrich Froebel, well before Darwin, not only held to cosmic evolution but saw education as a major element in that continuing process. For Froebel, the entire universe was a living, evolving organism, the unity of which is called God.” Now there’s a unique worldview for one of the main movers and shakers of the kindergarten movement–an evolutionist even before Darwin! The whole “evolving” universe is supposed to be God. You don’t suppose any of this sort of mindset ever seeped through to others, teachers or students, do you?

Not surprisingly, the kindergarten movement in Europe became associated with the radical feminist groups who had their own ties to the 1848 socialist revolts in Europe. (See Addendum III, Socialist Influence on Feminism, on page 307 of Lincoln’s Marxists. With all the socialist baggage attending it, it should come as no surprise that, in Prussia, the government that put down the 1848 revolts issued an order in 1851 that banned all Froebel-inspired kindergartens. Karl von Raumer, the Prussian minister of culture and education condemned the kindergarten as “a center of atheistic and socialist subversion.” Gee, wonder where he ever got that idea! Other German states soon followed the Prussian example.

Seeing that they could no longer make a go of socialistic kindergartens in Germany, the “forty-eighters” brought them to America as part of their socialist agenda, and we eventually bought into them the same way be bought into the rest of the public school system.

Don’t be surprised that your “history” books fail to mention most of this. You really are not supposed to know it, and our “educational leaders” would much rather you didn’t.

Jackie Robinson (Brooklyn Dodgers) was a Communist Dupe: FBI Documents, 1958

Published by Charleston Voice, 06.25.12

We've known of Robinson's affiliation with the Communist-infiltrated NAACP for years, but didn't want to bring it up w/o reason before now. Here's the reason which fits so nicely within bounds of our present POTUS: Barack Obama wants to visit set of Jackie Robinson movie ’42′. Genuine and devoted baseball fans have set racism aside for their favorite passtime; quite glaringly, Barry Soetoro has not, using every opportunity to draw the race distinction.  But, that's Hollywood, too, isn't it!

This is but the 1st page from the FOIA FBI documents originating in 1958. The 5-page file can be viewed here at the FBI site [FBI has since archived these and eliminated from their file directory. Urge you to save on your hard drive in likely event they'll disappear entirely]. In brief, and when the FBI was a loyal protector of our internal security, Jack Roosevelt ("Jackie") Robinson was closely watched for subversive leanings.
