Congress's Socialist Wing

As an ideological point of reference realize that the site (DTN) origin of this post is of a leftist pro-war Zionist Republican neocon bent itself.

Members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus

The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) was founded in 1991 by Bernie Sanders, a self-identified socialist who had recently been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Sanders' CPC co-founders included House members Ron Dellums, Lane Evans, Thomas Andrews, Peter DeFazio, and Maxine Waters. The Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) was also involved in CPC's founding and in Caucus activities thereafter; IPS continues to advise CPC on various matters to this day.

Another key player in establishing CPC was the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which has maintained a close alliance with the Caucus ever since. In 1997, DSA's political director, Chris Riddiough, organized a meeting with CPC leaders to discuss how the two groups might be able to “unite our forces on a common agenda.” Among those who participated in the meeting were Bernie Sanders, labor leader Richard Trumka, professor Noam Chomsky, feminist Patricia Ireland, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Senator Paul Wellstone, journalist William Greider, and the socialist author Barbara Ehrenreich.

Beginning in 1997, CPC worked closely with the newly launched “Progressive Challenge, a coalition of more than 100 leftist organizations that sought to unite their activities and objectives under a "multi-issue progressive agenda." To view a list of many of the major groups that co-sponsored the Progressive Challenge, click here.

On November 11, 1999, CPC drafted a vital Position Paper on economic inequality, which called for “legislative initiatives” to combat the “income and wealth disparities” that “distor[t] our democracy, destabiliz[e] the economy, and erod[e] our social and cultural fabric.” Lamenting that “two and a half decades of government policies and rules governing the economy” had been “tilted in favor of large asset owners at the expense of wage earners,” the document derided the “pro-investor bias” of America's existing “tax policy, trade policy, monetary policy, [and] government regulations.”

In 2005 CPC spelled out its political agendas in what would become its signature document, the “Progressive Promise.” Therein, the Caucus emphasizes its commitment to four major priorities: Economic Justice and Security; Civil Rights and Civil Liberties; Global Peace and Security; and Environmental Protection & Energy Independence. Under the rubric of these items fall a number of additional key CPC objectives, such as these:
  • "To uphold the right to universal access to affordable, high-quality healthcare for all."
  • "To … create new jobs in the U.S. by building more affordable housing, re-building America’s schools and physical infrastructure, cleaning up our environment, and improving homeland security."
  • "To ensure [that] working families can live above the poverty line and with dignity by raising and indexing the minimum wage."
  • "To sunset expiring provisions of the Patriot Act and bring remaining provisions into line with the U.S. Constitution."
  • "To fight corporate consolidation of the media and ensure opportunity for all voices to be heard"—essentially a plan for purging conservative voices from the airwaves by means of the "Fairness Doctrine" or adherence to the principles of “localism.”
  • "To bring U. S. troops home from Iraq as soon as possible."
  • "To encourage debt relief for poor countries" as outlined in the United Nations Millennium Project, a massive redistributive scheme calling for the governments of wealthy countries to commit 0.7% of their GNP to promoting “the economic development and welfare of developing countries.”
  • "To free ourselves and our economy from dependence upon imported oil and shift to growing reliance upon renewable energy supplies and technologies."
  • To “eliminate [the] environmental threat posed by global warming,” an objective that may be accomplished by increased emphasis on “solar, biomass, and wind power.”
  • "To promote environmental justice," a term founded on the premise that hazardous-waste landfills and pollution-emitting industries tend to be situated disproportionately near minority neighborhoods.
A 2002 report by Joelle Fishman, chair of the Communist Party USA's Political Action Committee, stated that the Progressive Caucus “provides an important lever that can be used to advance workers' issues and move the debate to the left in every Congressional District in the country.” In a 2010 CPUSA report, Party member David Bell identified Progressive Caucus members as his organization's “allies in Congress.”

As of March 2015, CPC consisted of 68 members of the House of Representatives—all of them leftist Democrats—and one U.S. Senator (Bernie Sanders, an Independent who caucuses with the Democrats).

Churches & Organizations Promoting Liberation Theology

A vast network of Roman Catholic and Protestant church organizations devoted to the spread of Marxism-Leninism under the guise of LiberationTheology has been developed in the past 25 years.
At the highest level of Catholic Church organization are Marxist sympathizers Bryan Heir and Thomas Quigley. Father Heir was given the Letelier Award by the radical leftist Institute for Policy Studies. (Orlando Letelier was a known Chilean communist, openly admired by Heir.) Quigley is active in a number of pro-communist organizations, including the Council for Hemispheric Affairs, the Washington Office for Latin America, and the Religious Task Force on Central America.

The main instrument for the communist use of the Church is the network of Justice and Peace Commissions. These organizations exist at all levels of the Catholic Church. Local commissions are formed by individual parishioners, whose activities typically include letter writing in support of leftist causes and support for boycotts.

This official set of church organizations is supplemented by many other groups, including the Maryknoll and Jesuit orders and Pax Christi.

Pax Christi is a frankly political group that involves bishops, priests, and lay people. Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, head of the U.S. chapter of Pax Christi, for example, was known to be a Sandinista sympathizer and a personal supporter of Maryknoll priest Miguel D’Escoto, an avowed communist.

At the local level, the organizations are too many to list. Worthy of special note, however, is the Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) in the diocese of San Antonio, Texas, which maintains an active liberationist program.

Active throughout the hemisphere, but especially in Texas, the MACC has its fingers in a number of progressive pies. They advocate opening U.S. borders to uncontrolled immigration, harbor illegal aliens, organize farm labor strikes, and establish Basic Christian Communities to promote Liberation Theology among Hispanics.

In the Washington, DC area, many groups are active in promoting Liberation Theology, including: The Center of Concern, a Jesuit front; The Quixote Center; Network, the official lobbying group of leftist nuns; The Christic Institute; and The Jesuit Mission Center.

The National Council of Churches (NCC) and a number of its member organizations also promote Liberation Theology. Consider these:
  • Church World Service actively contributes funds to leftist governments with which the NCC sympathizes.
  • Domestic Hunger Network spends more money supporting leftwing political activism than feeding the needy.
  • Agricultural Missions Program supports local indigenous movements that tend toward total liberation of rural people - spiritual, economic, and political.
  • Cluster on Unity and Relationships fosters ecumenical merging of church groups with differing doctrines, all in the context of Liberation Theology.
  • Cluster on Church Life and Witness (Divison on Church and Society) is an outreach to increase the acceptance of Liberation Theology propaganda in public discussion, media communications, and educational curriculum.
  • Cluster on Church and Society promotes a broad, leftist agenda on issues including poverty, racism, sexism, civil liberties, ecology, and welfare.
  • Cluster on International Ministries works with overseas religious groups to promote socialist policies there and undermine anti-communist governments combatting terrorism.
  • The Clergy and Laity Concerned, formed by the NCC in 1965, is closely allied to the communist World Peace Council and was active in the assault on South Africa.
  • Another group, the American Friends Service Committee, formed by 14 socialist Quakers in 1917, has been infiltrated and used by communists to promote their domestic and foreign policy objectives - including the promotion of liberationist activities worldwide.
  • The Riverside Church Disarmament Program (RCDP), run by activists in the leadership of the Marxist Institute for Policy Studies, is a propaganda organization active in the spread of liberationism. RCDP also is closely allied to the communist World Peace Council.
Additional promotion of Liberation Theology is conducted by major Protestant denominations, most notably Methodist, Episcopal, and Presbyterian, as well as by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Trusting NPR for your "truthful news"? - Surprise! It's a government propaganda generator

Your Tax Dollars at Work: IPS and National Public Radio

The Institute for Policy Studies' (IPS) annual report points out that Institute fellows’ commentaries ‘‘are heard regularly over National Public Radio [NPR] and through local radio interviews and broadcasts.‘‘ NPR has a regular nationwide audience of about nine million.

NPR’s liberal-left bias in its news reporting has been derived in part from the politics of Frank Mankiewicz, NPR president until he left in April 1983 Mankiewicz has been a fairly regular Washington School faculty member and consultant for IPS.

According to FBI records Mankiewicz was scheduled to meet with Teofilo Acosta, a top—ranking Cuban DGI officer, Orlando Letelier and Kirby Jones at his home in Washington on June 7, 1975.

In 1974 and 1975 Mankiewicz traveled to Cuba three times with IPS fellow Saul Landau and Kirk Jones to produce a documentary on Fidel Castro. Like l.andau, Mankiewicz found Castro captivating. In the preface of his book, With Fidel, co-authored with Jones, Mankiewicz writes:
Fidel Castro, Saul Landau, Peace Corps officials Frank Mankiewicz and Kirby Jones, 1974

  • "Comparing notes later, it seemed clear we had been with one of the most charming and entertaining men either of us had ever met. Whether one agrees with him or not, Castro is personally overpowering. U.S. political writers would call it a simple case of charisma, but it is more than that.
  • Political leaders often can be and are charismatic in a public sense, but rather normal in more private moments. Such is not the case with Fidel Castro. He remains one of the few truly electric personalities in a world in which his peers seem dull and pedestrian. "

In April 1983 Mankiewicz resigned from NPR amidst charges of gross financial mismanagement— a $7.8 million shortfall, 26 percent of its annual operating budget. But NPR retains its ties with IPS through fellows like Richard Barnet, Ariel Dorfman, Roger Wilkins, Michael Klare, Peter Kornbluh, and Barbara Ehrenreich who offer commentaries or are quoted over NPR. Over the years a number of NPR reporters and employees have also participated in IPS activities.

Jim Angle, editor of ‘‘All Things Considered,’’ chaired a workshop, ‘‘Public Opinion and the Media," at a Riverside Church Conference on Central America in October 1983. Angle said he didn’t mix his politics with his professional work, but the main topics discussed in his workshop were ‘‘advocacy reporting" and how media activists could use events "like the human rights certification process of El Salvador’’ to influence public opinion.

Michele Magar, and assistant producer at NPR, chaired the IPS Washington School’s six-week class on foreign reporting in spring 1984—a class that brought in three reporters from the Washington Post and one from the New York Times. The IPS syllabus called for Magar to be joined by coworker Deborah Amos, a news producer at NPR, for the final session. The IPS agenda billed the class as one that would "examine the role of foreign journalism in our perceptions of the world, and in the formation of foreign policy." Topics discussed included the ‘‘Impact of Foreign Reporting: Implications Here and Abroad,’’ ‘‘Neutrality vs. Advocacy," "The Politics of Foreign Reporting." "Falling out of Favor with the U.S. Embassy: What Are the Costs?’’

On U.S. intervention in Grenada, NPR’s polls found that the American public disapproved of our action by a margin of about three to two. This conflicted with all respected public opinion polls, which found no less than 65 percent of the public in favor.

After the release of the bipartisan Kissinger Commission Report on Central America in January 1984, NPR got on the bandwagon to discredit its findings. The commission specifically warned of the increasing Soviet and Cuban involvement in the Western Hemisphere, the escalating conflict in Nicaragua and El Salvador, and the general instability in Central America should the United States sit back and do nothing. The week of February 20, 1984—the same week the report was released and distributed to Congress the "Morning Edition" news program promoted a new IPS publication, Changing Course: Blueprint for Peace in Central America and the Caribbean. On February 23 NPR aired a lengthy interview with Richard Barnet, who criticized the Kissinger Commission findings while promoting his institute’s alternative study.

NPR sympathy for the Marxist guerrillas in El Salvador continued despite the enthusiasm for democracy demonstrated by the large voter turnouts in the 1982 and 1984 Salvadoran elections. NPR prefers to despair by focusing on ‘‘right-wing death squads.’’ Two days after the Salvadoran election of March 1984, the news anchor for ‘‘Morning Edition,’’ Bob Edwards, said that ‘‘it is likely that the elections will make little difference to the future of El Salvador."

The numerous connections with IPS aside, NPR’s failure to uphold rigorous standards of objectivity in news coverage and to comply with the FCC’s guidelines on fairness amid equal access is not in keeping with its responsibility to the American public, particularly since the American taxpayers foot 95 percent of NPR’s budget, which is over $25 million annually.

Noam Chomsky: Cuddle Pet of the Subversive Academic Left

Exclusive
Click image for larger complete view of the Chomsky Network

What do Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky, Noam Chomsky
and George Soros have in common? They were/are
all radicals, born to Jewish parents, had no Jewish
identity and hurt Jews (not to mention non-Jews).

Source

Born to Jewish parents in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 7, 1928, Noam Chomsky has taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since 1955.

In 1961 he was appointed full Professor in MIT's Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics (now the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy). From 1966 to 1976 he held the Ferrari P. Ward Professorship of Modern Languages and Linguistics. In 1976 he was appointed Institute Professor.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Professor Chomsky is “the most cited living author” and ranks just below Plato and Sigmund Freud among the most cited authors of all time. While acknowledging that he is reviled in some quarters for his ferocious anti-Americanism, a recent New Yorker profile calls Chomsky “one of the greatest minds of the 20th century.”

"Hardcore Marxist" Source

Chomsky is without question the most politically influential living academic among other academics and their students. He is promoted by rock groups such as Rage Against the Machine and Pearl Jam at their concerts the way the Beatles once promoted the Guru Maharaji, with the performers solemnly reading excerpts from his work in between sets and urging their followers to read him too. The devotion of Chomsky’s followers is summarized by radio producer David Barsamian, who describes the master’s effulgence in openly religious terms: "He is for many of us our rabbi, our preacher, our rinpoche, our sensei."

Manufacturing Consent, a documentary adapted from one of Chomsky’s books with the same title, has achieved the status of an underground classic in university film festivals. And at the climactic moment in the Academy Award-winning Good Will Hunting, the genius-janitor, played by Matt Damon, vanquishes the incorrect thinking of a group of sophomoric college students with a fiery speech quoting Professor Chomsky on the illicit nature of American power.

Any analysis of Chomsky must address linguistics, the field he remade so thoroughly by his scholarly work of the late 1950s that he was often compared to Einstein and other paradigm shifters. Those who admire this achievement but not his politics are at pains to explain what they take to be a disjunction between his work in linguistics and his sociopolitical ideas. They see the former as so brilliant and compelling as to be unarguable -- in all a massive scientific achievement -- and the latter as so venomous and counter-factual as to be emotionally disturbing.

Paul Postal and Robert Levine, linguists who have known and worked with Chomsky, take the view that the two aspects of his life’s work in fact manifest the same key properties: "a deep disregard of, and contempt for, the truth; a monumental disdain for standards of inquiry; a relentless strain of self-promotion; notable descents into incoherence; and a penchant for verbally abusing those who disagree with him."

Noam Chomsky, the influential communist-anarchist
intellectual. Chomsky, incidentally, is an outspoken
supporter of ACORN. Source

Chomsky’s work in linguistics allowed him to make a transition from the university to the public arena in the mid-1960s and to be taken seriously as a critic of the war in Vietnam. In a series of influential articles that appeared in the New York Review of Books and other publications, he distinguished himself by the cold intellectual ferocity of his attacks on American policy. Although a generation older than most members of the New Left, he shared the latter's eagerness to romanticize the Third World...

... Chomsky is a longtime member of both the Democratic Socialists of America and the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and  Socialism. He is also a board of advisors member with the Free Gaza Movement. And he an advisory editor for Against the Current, a bimonthly magazine produced by Solidarity, featuring articles by members as well as revolutionary activists and intellectuals from social movements around the world... DEMOCRACY NOW! (DN) P.O. Box 693

URL :http://www.democracynow.org

  • Radical radio and television weekday news show and tax-exempt entity
  • Created in 1996 at Pacifica Radio in New York City
  • Main anchor is co-founder and radical Amy Goodman
Democracy Now! is a morning weekday newscast that (as of June 2009) could be heard on at least 800 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada, and on a number of additional stations in Europe, Australia, Mexico, and South America. It also produces a television version of each newscast, which its website (as of April 2006) says can be seen and heard on more than 250 cable TV systems, mostly on public access channels, and on subscriber satellite TV systems Direct TV and DISH network. Democracy Now! is also a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.

Democracy Now! was created in 1996 by WBAI radio news director Amy Goodman, Pacifica anchor Larry Bensky, Juan Gonzalez, Salim Muwakkie and Julie Drizin. Its aim was to provide "perspectives rarely heard in the U.S. corporate-sponsored media," i.e., the views of radical and foreign journalists, left and labor activists, and ideological foes of capitalism. The popular hard-left show soon began airing not only in New York City but also on the other Pacifica-owned stations in Berkeley, Los Angeles, Houston and Washington, D.C.

Key figures at Democracy Now!, such as radio producer Mike Burke and television producers Ana Nogueira, Elizabeth Press and John Hamilton, all have backgrounds in Indymedia. Nogueira also has written for Z Magazine.

In 2000 Democracy Now! departed from WBAI's facilities amid internal battles over control of Pacifica Radio. It has broadcast ever since from studios in a converted firehouse renamed the Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV) in New York City's Chinatown. It continues to air on Pacifica-owned and affiliated stations. It is satellite-uplinked via the Pacifica Satellite System, but also via the taxpayer-subsidized Public Radio Satellite System (PRSS).  Stations can also receive the program over the Internet as broadcast-quality MP3 computer files.

Serious questions have arisen about how Democracy Now!, begun and developed with the resources of Pacifica Radio and grants from the Carnegie Corporation, the Ford Foundation, the J.M. Kaplan Fund and others, suddenly became independent and the effective property of Amy Goodman without recompense to Pacifica. This transfer apparently included valuable assets such as trademarks, ownership of years of archived programs, affiliate station access, and more.

In a contract that remains secret, Amy Goodman is also receiving $1 million per year for a five-year period that began in 2002, according to Pacifica Treasurer Jabari Zakiya, to continue doing what has become Pacifica's flagship morning news program. This is more than double Goodman's officially stated stipend of $440,000 per year from Pacifica Radio.

Democracy Now! receives indirect funding from George Soros, and direct funding from Soros' Open Society Institute, the Glaser Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Tides Foundation, the Public Welfare Foundation, the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy, and other left-leaning foundations.

OBAMA MEDIA - Gamechanger Salon is Bringing it On for You!

You wouldn't suppose government workers would be given paid time-off at taxpayer expense to carry on this crusade for communism would you? This post is in no way to insinuate we'll be any 'safer' with a Republican in the White House or GOP congress! It'd just be a different hammer, but you'll still have the same head.

They have their own ways to subvert the voters. In my own observations I've never read a criticism of Zionism, corporatism or their Republican agents by the DiscovertheNetworks, the content provider for this post.

(you'll have to find out on your own because congress no longer has any oversight requirements)

Media

GAMECHANGER SALON

Formed in 2013, Gamechanger Salon (GS) describes itself as a digital "space" where "1,400+ change makers from different 'worlds' of the [progressive] movement" can communicate with one another to share information, trade ideas, and strategize via a closed Google group. The overriding objective is to "build a stronger, more coordinated, more game-changing movement for the 21st century." Much, though not all, of what the network does is unavailable for public review. Emphasizing the need for discretion, GS's policy manual directs members "not to write things to the list that you wouldn't feel comfortable saying publicly (or that you wouldn't want to be subpoenaed by a Grand Jury or broadcast on Fox News)."
According to two GS members who, on condition of anonymity, spoke extensively with the website FitsNews.com about GS's activities, Gamechanger members include some of America's "biggest movers and shakers" and "most hard core leftists." These individuals, the sources added, "grace the nightly news and write for some of the most influential publications in the nation." Moreover, "the [Obama] White House uses their talking points."

From GS's inception, said the sources, "The object of this group was to protect Barack Obama at all costs, and [to] push progressive messaging around the country." That messaging has included heavy doses of pro-labor union propaganda and radical environmentalism. In addition, GS seeks to influence national politics as well. Among the group's favorite political figures is Democratic U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, who reportedly enjoys the support of at least 60% of Gamechanger members.
The existence of GS was first uncovered by MediaTrackers.org in July 2013, via an open-records inquiry into the actions of University of Wisconsin professor Joel Rogers, who happened to be a member of the group.

The founder and moderator of GS is Billy Wimsatt, who worked for the Obama presidential campaign and the Ohio Democratic Party in 2008; contributed columns to the Huffington Post for a number of years until 2012; and currently serves as the chief ideas officer at Gamechanger Labs, an incubator for left-wing political and social action.

Chuck Hagel is just the Defense Secretary we need to usher us into a Full Marxist America by end of Obama's Term

"Hey, as long as they think they're dying in defense of their country, who cares, pile it on!"
Marxist Panetta handing the baton of Subversion to Marxist Hagel. See Panetta's Marxist history
Having donned the thin veneer of a "conservative" Republican, Hagel has an unblemished record of betrayal for America's independence. His affiliations, memberships, and support from just some of these subversive organizations are touched on below. They are all profiled on other posts on this blog.

We have fallen of our own doing into the dark, dank bottom of an old abandoned well and can't get out. Who shall help America?

Chuck Hagel a Committed Internationalist

Written by  Christian Gomez

The confirmation vote for Republican former senator of Nebraska Chuck Hagel (shown) to replace outgoing Leon Panetta as secretary of defense was postponed by another week after Hagel failed to meet the expectations of his former Republican colleagues during last week's Senate confirmation hearings. Even more troubling than Sen. Hagel's performance in the hearing is his record on defense issues, as well as his questionable ties to certain organizations.

The secretary of defense is second (only to the president) in the military chain of command and directly oversees the Department of Defense and the nation’s armed forces. This makes the selection of this Cabinet-level position of the utmost importance concerning national security, thus requiring a scrupulous vetting of the nominee.

As a member of the Senate, Hagel voted in the following manner on defense issues:

• NAY on separate barracks for males and females in basic training;
• YES to kill an amendment that called for sanctions on commercial fronts of the Communist Chinese military;
• YES in support of China’s membership in the World Trade Organization;
• YES on the Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty to reduce U.S. nuclear stockpiles in parity with Russia.

On May 14, 1998, Sen. Hagel voted to table (kill) the Hutchinson Amendment (S.Amdt.2387) to the National Defense Authorization Act of 1999. This amendment would have required the president of the United States to “compile a list of persons who are Communist Chinese military companies and who are operating directly or indirectly in the United States or any of its territories and possessions,” and to “publish the list of such persons in the Federal Register.”

The amendment would have also given the president the authority to invoke sanctions against front corporations of China’s People’s Liberation Army, which is the military arm of Communist Party of China. Although the amendment and bill passed the Senate, it was subsequently referred to the House Committee on National Security, where no action was taken on it, and thus it failed to pass Congress.

In addition to his voting record above, in 2000, Senator Hagel endorsed President Bill Clinton’s decision to “not deploy a limited national missile defense system.” Hagel explained that missile defense “must move forward on four parallel tracks — technology, Congress, our allies, and the Russians.”

While Hagel believes that a U.S. missile defense system should only be deployed with the cooperation of Russia, he does not consider such cooperation from Russia as important when it comes to reducing nuclear weapons. He has called for “sharply reducing the number of U.S. nuclear weapons, possibly without equivalent cuts by Russia,” according to the

Hagel is also an advocate of the complete elimination of all nuclear weapons from the face the planet and has worked with Global Zero, an organization dedicated to the same goal. If confirmed, Hagel would be the first incoming Secretary of Defense to be on record calling for the reduction and eventual abolition of the U.S. nuclear stockpile.

Hagel’s soft stance on Communist China and Russia and advocacy for total nuclear disarmament has earned him recent words of praise from the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The CPUSA’s official newspaper People’s World described Hagel as one who does “represent the more sober elements who have called in our national discourse for rejection of the old cold war tactics, the unilateralism and the continual push for wars all over the world.”

Joe Wendlend, the editor of the CPUSA’s theoretical journal Political Affairs, described Hagel as a “real Republican maverick,” in an article published on June 2, 2008. Past issues of Political Affairs have touted Hagel, along with some Democratic senators, for opposing the Iraq War and supporting immigration reform, or amnesty.

Phyllis Bennis, of the Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Policy Studies, wrote an article for The Nation magazine, published online on January 8, 2013, entitled “Will Chuck Hagel’s Appointment Actually Help the Anti-War Left?”
While acknowledging Hagel as a “conservative Republican,” Bennis wrote, “At the end of the day, this isn’t about Hagel versus anybody. This is about what President Obama is signaling by his nomination of Hagel as Secretary of Defense.” She further explained, “Obama is not prepared to allow either the pro-Israeli lobbies or the hard-core neoconservatives, in and outside of Washington, to determine whom he could and could not choose as Secretary of Defense.”

Bennis went on to applaud Hagel for his past remarks about the defense budget. “And then there’s the Pentagon budget. Hagel has called it 'bloated,' pretty amazing for a future Secretary of Defense.… [A] Pentagon chief who actually believes his agency’s budget should be cut — that’s new.” Her endorsement of Hagel concluded:

Standing to the left of President Obama’s center-right military policy is not a very high bar. But again — standing up to AIPAC, the defense industry (and members of Congress accountable to them) and the still-powerful neocons makes the Hagel appointment a good move for Obama. And it gives the rest of us a basis to push much farther to end the wars, to close the bases, to cut the Pentagon funding, to tax the military profiteers.

This Institute for Policy Studies’ endorsement of Hagel is significant, considering that Secretary Panetta also had ties with the IPS during his early years in Congress. It should be noted that during the Cold War era, both the IPS and the Communist Party USA acted as front organizations for the KGB and the Soviet Union. Even today, the IPS continues to work with Marxists within the United States to bring about their desired brand of social changes.

Phyllis Bennis also carries communist affiliations of her own. She was a former member of the pro-Soviet Line of March, which was an “Oakland based Maoist organization founded in 1970,” according to KeyWiki’s online database of communists, socialists, and Marxist subversives. In 2008, Bennis was voted to the steering committee of United for Peace and Justice, where she worked alongside CPUSA leaders Judith LeBlanc and Libero Della Piana.

United for Peace and Justice is also listed on the IPS website as one of its “Partner Organizations.” Another IPS “Partner Organization” of note is the George Soros-funded Ploughshares Fund, which has Chuck Hagel as a board member. Hagel shares membership on the Ploughshares board with:

• John Hoyt, who also serves on the Organizers’ Forum Board of the Democratic Socialists of America-run magazine Social Policy;
• Cynthia Ryan, who has also served on the board of self-admitted communist Van Jones’ Green for All.
• Kennette Benedict, the executive director and publisher of the leftist anti-military Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists;
• David Holloway, former member of the Board of Editors for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

On January 9, 2013, the Ploughshares Fund applauded and congratulated President Obama’s decision to nominate Hagel as defense secretary. The Ploughshares Fund, like Global Zero and the IPS, also advocates vast cuts to military defense spending and the reduction of U.S. nuclear weapons, without an adequate missile defense system in place to defend the country from potential ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) attack.

In addition to sitting on the board of the Ploughshares Fund, Hagel is also the chairman of the Atlantic Council. In its early years, according to the Atlantic Council's website, it worked with various luminaries from the one-world-government-promoting Council of Foreign Relations (CFR), such as Secretaries of State Dean Acheson, Dean Rusk, and Lucius Clay. It should also be noted that Hagel is also a member of the CFR, according to the 2012 CFR membership roster.

Since its founding in 1961, the Atlantic Council has worked toward greater interconnectivity and cooperation with Europe when dealing with issues of global concern. Today, the Atlantic Council works to deepen the relationship between the United States and the European Union on global matters.

In 2011, Hagel wrote an article entitled “Defining A New World Order” that appeared on the Atlantic Council's website. In the article, Hagel discusses the limitations of U.S. foreign policy and the need to engage foreign nations through diplomacy in order to advance the growth of democracy abroad. Concerning Egypt, Hagel wrote, “Continued long-standing U.S.-Egyptian military-to-military relationships will be vital to U.S. policy and Egypt's democratic transition.”

Hagel's article, in accordance with the Atlantic Council, does not consider American exceptionalism as a factor in world events, but rather views the United States as a leading partner among other states in the promotion of world democracy. It is Wilsonian in its tone and reveals the former senator's internationalist worldview, which is alarming considering that he may in fact take charge of the U.S. armed forces and policy planning at the Pentagon.
As an internationalist, Hagel is deeply committed to the goals, success, and expansion of the United Nations. In his 2008 book America: Our Next Chapter, Hagel wrote:

The United Nations can play a central and critical role in forging connections. The global challenges of terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, hunger, disease, and poverty require multilateral responses and initiatives. The United States should therefore take every opportunity to help strengthen global institutions and alliances, including the UN.... No international conflict is simple or easy to deal with, but each requires attention and the United Nations is the only international organization that can help bring the consensus that is indispensable in finding solutions and resolving crises.

In a recent written response to whether he supported U.S. contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, Hagel stated:

I support in principle additional contributions of U.S. military personnel to key positions in UN peacekeeping operations where the mission is a strategic priority for the Department and the United States and where our servicemembers can add significant value to the mission effectiveness and efficiencies.

Hagel went on to clarify that he would likely look to increase the number of U.S. personnel participating in UN peacekeeping efforts overseas:

The success of UN peacekeeping operations is important to the United States. I believe that the U.S. should continue to provide military personnel to UN peacekeeping operations, especially for key staff positions that help shape the direction and success of the mission. Such support must be practicable and weighed against the potential costs and competing demands for military commitments. If confirmed, I will carefully evaluate the costs of requested UN support against the potential positive impacts and U.S. interests.

A Hagel Defense Department would likely be one dedicated to fundamentally transforming the U.S. armed forces from focusing on military defense to one of increased nation-building and UN peacekeeping operations, in order to make the world “safe for democracy” — as President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed in 1917 — while also pursuing greater flexibility toward Russia in U.S. nuclear disarmament.  Finish reading>> The New American
