Public Apathy--no wonder the country's going to the dogs by Al Benson Jr.

Recently, I attended a town council meeting in my area. I was a little surprised at the lack of attendance. The total audience for the meeting was me and the wife and children of one of the aldermen. As I sat and watched the town's business being carried on, with no public participation whatever, the thought came to me "these town council members could literally sell this town into socialist dictatorship at this meeting and the town would know nothing of it until the next issue of the weekly paper came out--if the paper had had a reporter at the meeting, which it didn't."

As we ponder why the country is in such dire straights, with Marxist politicians slicing away at our liberties right and left, all the public at large seems to be concerned about is who is in top place on the latest reality show on television. The thought came to me also, that, is it possible that for most of us, our public school "educations" or lack thereof is partly responsible for our apathetic attitudes.

Lets face it, public school education does not exactly induce people to ask questions about much of anything except when lunch time is. If inquiring minds really want to know, the public school is the last place to find out, whether it's history, economics, or whatever.

The content of some public school textbooks today is so salacious that many passages could not be read aloud in a public meeting--yet are required reading for impressionable youngsters. It would seem that the mission of the public school system is to teach young folks a lot of what they would be better off not knowing about and precious little that would do them any real good. Is this by accident? Not really.

When you consider the origins of the public school system it becomes more apparent that this is the real agenda. Education has little to do with it. Leftist indoctrination has much to do with it--and helps to create an atmosphere in which people are not really concerned with how they are governed or who does it as long as they are not bothered too much.
