No, There is No “Christian Case” for Abortion

Keli Goff 's essay at the Daily Beast was headlined "A Christian Case for Abortion Rights?" Does that not sound like the vegetarian's case for meat, Barack Obama's case for decisive leadership, or the devout atheist—contrary at its core? This oldie but badie argument merits a rebuttal, not because it is so original but because it is like the 700th iteration of a Xerox. So what IS the Christian case for abortion rights, you ask? It's really more like how Goff has concluded that a pro-life position, for Christians, at least, is problematic because of "four primary complications." These are so old, you have to wipe cobwebs off of them. First, Goff tells us, "the unresolved debate within Christianity regarding the extent to which our modern-day actions should be governed by Old Testament law." So, by Goff's logic, if the Old Testament talks "about sacrificing bulls and turtledoves," which "are no longer held to ironclad interpretation and practice by 21st-century Christians and clergy," therefore the application of Old Testament scripture such as Exodus 21:22 to abortion is no longer "ironclad" either. I assume we are supposed to take this seriously. I won't and I assume no one else who can count to 66 will either. Since this is a brief post we'll not talk about the many, many passages which emphasize how God is in communion with us before we are born and the continuity between life before and after birth. To take one example, in the Psalms. As Peter Saunders has observed, "The baby in the womb is the Psalmist, the same person, not a different person and not a non-person." What else? "The next complication is the lack of scientific and religious clarity over how to define when life begins." There is no lack of scientific clarity over when life begins. Life begins at conception. Period. Whether you protect that life—whether that life has "meaning" or "significance"—is a separate question. Religious "clarity"? How about "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful…My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place…your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." The Bible is also crystal clear that there are no separate categories of human beings. We are all—each one of us—unique and of infinite value because we are made in God's image. "The third issue for debate among devout Christians regarding abortion rights, and one of the most important," Goff writes, "is determining whether something that one may believe morally to be wrong or even a sin should be legislated." What is that supposed to mean? Whether you believe it is "morally" wrong to knock your fiancé out cold and someone else says it's just wrong (or a "private matter") is not the issue. The law is intended to protect the weak from the strong, to say some behavior is out of bounds and will be punished, and that you can't get away with something by pretending someone—aka the law–is foisting their "morality" on you. Goff's concluding point—reduced to its essence—is that even if someone (presumably a Christian) concludes that something (in this case having an abortion) is a sin, who gets to decide whether having an abortion is the more "humane" choice? As we have discussed countless times, there are difficult cases. No pro-lifer denies that. How would or could we when so many of us have experienced the hardest of the hard cases in our own lives? Two things we've learned. First, if you go all the way back to the abortion "reform" movement of the 1960s, a narrow band of proposed "exceptions" had, by 1973, swallowed the rule. Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton essentially gave us abortion on demand throughout pregnancy.  These decisions' progeny, so to speak, is softness on infanticide and assisted suicide. Second, with the rarest of situations—ectopic pregnancies and a threat to the life of the mother—the hard cases are manageable cases where the choice can and should be for life. Does that require courage and resolution and character? Absolutely. But is not the life of a wholly dependent, helpless baby worth that? NARAL Pro-Choice America was established in 1969 as the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws. After the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, NARAL changed its name to the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League. In 2003, seeking to soften its image and align itself with the notion that abortion activism was only about “a woman’s right to choose,” the organization changed its name to NARAL Pro-Choice America.[1] It is a member of the National Council of Women's Organizations.

With more than a million members and supporters as well as 22 state affiliates, NARAL today seeks to promote the legalization of taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand, and to defeat all efforts to limit access to abortion in any way. Toward these ends, the organization mobilizes pro-choice activists nationwide, lobbies on behalf of pro-choice legislation at the state and federal levels, and works vigorously—via advertising campaigns, education initiatives, and get-out-the-vote drives—to elect pro-choice candidates across the United States. Historically, in each election cycle NARAL has given more than 90% of its political donations to Democrats. In the 2008, 2010, and 2012 election cycles, the figure was 100%.

In May 2008, NARAL's Political Action Committee became the first major pro-choice PAC to endorse Barack Obama for U.S. President. On Obama's behalf, the organization identified and contacted potential supporters in nearly 300,000 households across eight key states—Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Four years later, NARAL strove to help Obama win re-election by again targeting its outreach efforts to pro-choice women—especially those whose support for the President seemed to be waning.

NARAL also works against the nomination of federal judges and cabinet members who oppose unconstrained abortion-on-demand. Over the years, for instance, the organization has opposed the nominations of Supreme Court candidates like Robert Bork, William Rehnquist, Antonin Scalia, and Clarence Thomas. “[I]f George Bush tries to pack the Supreme Court with out-of-touch far-right judges who want to take away our rights,” said NARAL in January 2005, “he's going to hear from that pro-choice majority loud and clear. We are dedicated to making sure that Roe v. Wade outlives the next four years of George W. Bush.”

In 2004, NARAL tried unsuccessfully to prevent the passage of the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (UVVA), which made it an added criminal offense for someone to injure or kill a fetus while carrying out a crime against a pregnant woman. In March of that year, the organization delivered some 130,000 anti-UVVA petitions to members of the U.S. Senate. Deriding the Act for “giving separate legal status to a fetus or embryo,” Kate Michelman described it as “part of a long-term effort to erode Roe v. Wade.”

In addition, NARAL has likewise traditionally opposed:

• a ban on the late-term procedure commonly known as “partial-birth abortion”;
• laws banning the public funding of abortion, on grounds that such bans ensure that “low-income women don't have the same choices as Americans with more money”;
• the promotion of “personhood” measures saying that “life begins at conception [and] thus giv[ing] legal rights to a fertilized egg”;
• restrictions on women's access to RU 486, or mifepristone, “a safe, non-surgical way for women to terminate an unintended pregnancy ... within the first nine weeks”;
• “refusal clauses” that allow hospitals, doctors, pharmacists, employers, and insurers to refuse to perform or finance certain medical procedures that violate their moral or religious principles; and
• laws that bar minors from undergoing abortions without first securing parental permission.

NARAL routinely depicts “anti-choice politicians and groups” as cold-hearted extremists who seek to outlaw, “without exceptions,” all “safe abortion methods that protect women's health”; who intentionally mislead women with “false claims” that abortion “causes breast cancer,” “is psychologically damaging,” or “can lead to sterility”; and who frighten both doctors and patients in abortion clinics with “threats of murder, violence, and intimidation.”

Rejecting “dangerous 'abstinence-only' programs,” NARAL believes “the federal government and the states should invest more money in sex-education programs” that “teach teens about birth control.” For years the organization waged a campaign “to make no-cost birth control a reality.” Toward that end, NARAL collected some 50,590 signatures on a petition that it presented to the Department of Health & Human Services, which ultimately oversaw the codification of contraception coverage in the “Obamacare” legislation of 2010.

NARAL has also weighed in on some key issues unrelated to abortion and pregnancy:

• Immigration Reform: Asserting that “every woman has the right to make her own reproductive-health decisions … regardless of her immigration status,” NARAL abjures “regressive immigration laws and policies that force people to live in the shadows.”
• Voter Suppression: NARAL opposes “measures that unnecessarily burden citizens’ voting rights,” including “voter-I.D. laws, potential voter purges, and laws hindering early voting, absentee voting, and voter registration.”
• Same-Sex Marriage: NARAL supports "the fundamental premise that each individual has a right to privacy [and] the right to be free from governmental interference in the most personal, private areas of one’s life, including marriage." Thus the organization "opposes efforts to ... limit individuals’ rights to make personal, private decisions."

I have previously reported that Monsanto, or Monsatan as many call them, has partnered with the Department of Defense to use a proxy third party company to develop a vaccine against Ebola. The seed money began at $1.5 million. The value of the deal could grow to an estimated $86 million dollars. The company’s name is Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corporation (TKMR) (TKM.TO), a leading developer of RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutics. 

“TKM-Ebola, an anti-Ebola virus RNAi therapeutic, is being developed under a $140 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense’s Medical Countermeasure Systems BioDefense Therapeutics (MCS-BDTX) Joint Product Management Office”.  As breaking and shocking of a news story as this has the potential to be, the real story is that this is not the most important part of the Ebola threat which has invaded the United States. The truth of the matter is that these unholy and untrustworthy associations, when it comes to “fighting” the Ebola virus, represent the mere tip of the iceberg.

The more on digs into who is behind the creation and the development of vaccines for treating Ebola, the more the conspiracy networks widen. The most amazing fact is how incredibly easy it was to locate this information. I want to be clear on this point, Ebola was invented, a vaccine for Ebola has existed for 8-10 years, some government sponsored institutions as well as some of the global elite have positioned themselves to profit enormously from the spread of the virus and the development of and dissemination of mandatory Ebola vaccines and the imposition of total martial law in the process. The “SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION” section of the patent document also clearly claims that the U.S. government is claiming “ownership” over all Ebola viruses that share as little as 70% similarity with the Ebola it “invented”:

Why would a government organization claim to have “invented” this infectious disease and then claim a monopoly over its exploitation for commercial use? It is clear that the CDC plans to claim royalties on Ebola vaccines. This certainly increases the likelihood that the vaccines will become mandatory, thus increasing the profit potential for the patent holders.

Clearly, Ebola is manmade and this patent proves this contention. Why does the CDC need to own the patent on Ebola? Perhaps, we should ask Bill Gates why he is donating $50 million to the UN and the CDC in the name of fighting Ebola (see video below). The CDC has partners in the fight against Ebola, namely, Crucell, the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) and, of course, Bill and Melinda Gates.

Since when would Gates not expect a return on his investment? Gates and Michael Bloomberg have already contributed large sums of money to numerous vaccination causes such as the Global Polio Eradication Initiative originally launched in 1988 by the World Health Organization (WHO), Rotary International, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The return on investment has been impressive.
 
Gates has announced that he plans to vaccinate every child in the third world with multiple vaccines, which could result in a dramatic population reduction of 10-15%. Do you realize the enormous profits that can be realized by vaccinating every child in the third world? If we apply Gates’ penchant for investing in causes which produce a hefty “return on investment” (ROI) then one could reasonably suspect that Gates is positioning himself to profit on the $50 million he has invested in the Ebola cause which conveniently includes the CDC, the holder of the patent for Ebola.
 
The NIH presently holds all patents on Ebola vaccines. Crucell is much like Tekimara is to Monsanto in that they are fronting the science for the Ebola vaccine treatment patents.

Planned Parenthood Political Director Running for Seattle City Council

Halei Watkins, a 26-year-old Planned Parenthood political organizer is running for the Seattle City Council's newly drawn 5th district seat. The 5th district is comprised of the neighborhoods of Maple Leaf, Lake City, Bitter Lake and Broadview. While Watkins claims that her campaign will be focused on making Seattle "affordable", pro-lifers in the city should be concerned that an employee of the largest abortion business is America is trying to gain a position of leadership. Washington already has a one of the highest abortion rates in the United States. According to the Guttmacher Institute, in 2011, 21,880 women obtained abortions in Washington. This produces an abortion rate of about 16 abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age. In other words, 58 children in the state of Washington lose their life to abortion each and every day. But, unfortunately, it seems like many Seattleites are unaware of the corrupt business model Planned Parenthood works from. They've been so good at hiding what their really about that even Seattle's Catholic University supports Planned Parenthood. This came to light when local pro-life groups uncovered that the University offered internships at Planned Parenthood of Western Washington. As a previous LifeNews story reported, the Seattle affiliate donated $50,000 to help the abortion industry in Tennessee oppose an amendment that would overturn a radical 2000 pro-abortion decision by the Tennessee Supreme Court. The amendment would restore to the people the right to determine state laws and policies on matters affecting human life. However, Planned Parenthood of Seattle thought that helping the abortion industry in Tennessee was so important that they financially supported fighting the amendment. It seems fairly obvious that Seattle doesn't need another Planned Parenthood cheerleader, much less someone in leadership who works for their abortion business. Instead, they need pro-lifers who will stand up for life and share with women that abortion is not the solution to their unplanned pregnancy.

Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards Now Makes Over $500,000

According to Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s 2012 IRS Form 990, CEO Cecile Richards made over one-half million dollars – $523,616, to be exact – for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2013.

That’s a lot of money to pay the CEO of a nonprofit organization, particularly one that claims to cater to low-income women.

“Planned Parenthood works to make health care accessible and affordable,” boasts Planned Parenthood.

Really? How much more affordable would Planned Parenthood’s services be were not its corporate bosses and affiliate CEOs making big bucks? For that 2012 reporting period, PPFA’s 12-member executive team tallied a combined income of $3.87 million.

When questioned by The Daily Caller in October 2012 about what was thought at the time to be an “almost $400,000 salary,” Richards responded, “None of my salary is paid for by the federal government.”

But if “[n]early half of Planned Parenthood patients rely on Medicaid coverage,” as Planned Parenthood states, does Richards really think she’d be making the same coin were government funding – to the tune of $540.6 million in FY 2012-13 – removed from Planned Parenthood’s total revenue of $1.210 billion?

And actually, The Daily Caller was well over $100,000 off on Richards’ salary.

Turns out Richards made $583,323 during Fiscal Year 2011 (July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012). This represented a whopping 39% pay increase from the year before that, when she “only” made $420,153.

So, actually, Richards’ 2012 salary of $523,616 represented a 10% pay cut.

But this was because she took time off from Planned Parenthood to campaign for President Obama’s reelection – which paid off for Planned Parenthood handsomely via windfall income via Obamacare and other government funding streams, only kept flowing by Obama and other pro-abortion politicians.

This sort of financial cushion then frees up Planned Parenthood to raise and spend money to elect pro-abortion candidates, who then return the favor.
