Morgan Freeman Gifts $1 Million to Pro-Obama Super PAC

Can racists, hate panderers and their Marxist pitchmen really rule America? Yes, they can. Romney, not excluded. Washington, DC proved this in 1865, coming out of the US Civil War a stronger, mightier Tyranny. Need you be reminded that even then that the Yankee invasion of the southern states was promulgated by the Republican Party. The world is reaping what ye have sown. Shut up, sit down, and polish your ankle bracelets.

Morgan Freeman gifts pro-Obama super PAC with $1 million

This article was updated at 7:06 a.m. EDT to include controversial remarks from Morgan Freeman about President Barack Obama’s history-making role as America’s first black president.

Actor Morgan Freeman donated $1 million to the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action last month, according to USA Today.

In a statement, the Oscar-winning actor praised President Obama’s policy decisions and noted that he has worked under difficult circumstances.
“President Obama has done a remarkable job in terrible circumstances,” said Mr. Freeman. “He has ended combat operations in Iraq, put in place sensible reforms of Wall Street, saved the auto industry and protected the healthcare of every American with a preexisting condition. He has recognized the full equality of all our brothers and sisters and placed impressive, accomplished women on the Supreme Court. In return for this he is being targeted by hundreds of millions of dollars in special-interest money. I for one am proud to lend my voice – and support – to those who defend him.”

Mr. Freeman is a big-time Obama supporter, but the Hollywood star recently make some controversial remarks about Mr. Obama’s status as America’s first black president.
Speaking to NPR two weeks ago, Mr. Freeman said that “America’s first black president hasn’t arisen yet. He’s not America’s first black president — he’s America’s first mixed-race president.

While the actor’s comments are certainly puzzling, his $1 million donation to Priorities USA Action will certainly quell any talk that he may have jumped off the Obama train.

Mr. Freeman’s $1 million donation to Priorities USA Action helped the group record its highest monthly total yet- $6 million for the month of June. In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, Priorities USA Action senior advisor Paul Begala said that the group was “honored that he [Freeman] has lent his powerful voice to our cause.”

Despite the record-breaking haul, the Democratic super PAC is still being heavily outspent by its Republican counterparts, particularly the super PAC Restore our Future, which took in approximately $20 million in the same period, vastly out-raising Priorities USA Action.

President Obama is also being out-fundraised on more traditional fronts. In June, the Romney campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) raised a combined total of $106.1 million, according to the Times. The Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) only raised a combined total of $71 million dollars in the same time period. The Romney campaign and its supporters also out-raised the President and his allies in May.

Although it is likely that each candidate will raise and spend upwards of $750 million through the course of the campaign, it remains to be seen how decisive the money advantage will be for each candidate. According to an aggregation of polls maintained by the Huffington Post, the candidates are evenly split, with half of the polls giving a slight advantage to Mr. Romney and the other half giving a slight edge to President Obama.

There is no doubt that spending will tick up as the Republicans head into their nominating convention next month and the general election campaign begins in earnest. Since this is the first presidential election since the game-changing Citizens United case resulted in the rise of super PACs, it will be difficult to predict the effects of unfettered campaign financing.
