| Herald Meyerson hates White Southerners |
His piece, entitled ‘Start the Border Fence in Norfolk, VA,’ specifically attacks what he calls ‘the all-round fruitcakery of the right-wing white South.’ Readers will notice that Mr Meyerson’s hatred of the South is based not only on Southern politics, but also on racial bigotry. The article goes beyond the normal partisan rancor and name-calling that typifies US democracy; it is an a hit-piece which insults and ultimately advocates the demographic displacement of White Southerners.
Given that Meyerson is a leader of an openly socialist organisation it’s unsurprising that he spends most of his article attacking the South for its relative economic freedom. For example, he blames the South for being ‘a mecca for global corporations seeking a compliant and inexpensive labor force.’ Apparently, he would prefer that Southerners not have the well-paying jobs that BMW, Bridgestone, Boeing and other companies offer in the South today. Naturally, he doesn’t address the fact that the once-prosperous South was utterly destroyed by the United States in the 1860s and was then kept as an economic colony of the North for decades during which regional exploitation was rampant and poverty replaced great wealth. It’s only over the course of the last several decades that the South has been permitted to again compete with the North on something resembling a fair playing field. The results have been dramatic. Texas and other Southern States are booming while the industrial heartland of the North is now justly referred to as the ‘Rust Belt.’ Industry has fled the North while in the South industry is doing well. It’s not only industry; millions of people have also fled the North for the South in search of jobs. This transformation must be understood in light of the somewhat lessened but continued economic and political oppression of the South by the US Federal Government. The South is doing relatively well, economically speaking, at present, while non-Southern states such as Massachusetts and California are labeled as terrible places to do business. Think of how much better the South could do if it did not have thousands of Federal bureaucrats, cheered on by the likes of Herald Meyerson, holding it back. More>>
